WEEK 9 Blog: This week in class we talked about the container home project and the considerations we can start figuring out for our own container homes. We talked about how the location, the client(s), feeling and setting are important. We should also start considering how many containers we would like to use on our project and levels we want. For my inspirations so far, I decided that I want to make a container home as kind of a retirement home for my parents. They have always wanted to move to Florida, especially once my sister and I are out of the house, so creating something like that for them really interested me.   Week 6 BLOG: The Principles of Design Pt. 2 This week in the principles of design pt. 2 lecture we talked about rhythm. Rhythm is the repetition, progression, transition or contrast in a space. Rhythm directs someone's attention around the space and enhances the overall impression of the room. Rhythm is often always needed to enhance an interior space. It can be applied to color, texture, shape or pattern and leads the eye throughout a room to enjoy every aspect of the design.  There are 5 main types of rhythm. Repetition, gradation, contrast, transition, and radiation. Repetition is when an object, shape, texture or color is repeated within an interior. It gives a feeling of predictability and stability to viewers. Gradation is the uniformly increasing or decreasing the size of objects in a room to lead a viewer throughout a space. The size could mean height or width of an object. Contrast is when one object is used right next to another object that is contrasted by color, ...

Sketching Interiors The chapter this week focuses on texture. Being able to represent texture for different materials is an important skill to master. This chapter describes ways that you can represent texture with pencil, pen, and ink. We start this chapter learning how to correctly show ceilings, roofs, skylights and different interior spaces with a change in texture. Different exercises allow us to understand how to draw masonry, windows, shadows, and openings with a mix of values, strokes, and tones. The final exercise puts all of the steps together to be able to draw shadows, openings, and landscape together with both ink and pencil.  These exercises allowed me to try the ideas from the chapter in real life and understand what it means to draw shadows, openings, landscape, windows, and texture!

Week 5 BLOG: Continued Color Presentation - Color in Culture This week we talked about color in culture . This is defined as the way that culture impacts the color and the habit that they adopt concerning visual design. Color is used as a symbol for different cultures in different ways. It is based on one's background and experience. This has to do with age and gender. There are 7 different aspects of culture that color can be integrated in. These 7 different groups are Culture of Age, Culture of Gender, Culture of Social Economics, Culture of Climate, Culture of Location, Culture of Technology, and Culture of social media.  Culture of Age has four main age groups that this applies to. For example, young children usually begin discerning colors with a lot of contrast. The primary colors of red, yellow, and blue are these initial bright colors that children can begin to recognize. Youth/teens are more influenced by bright and bold colors and hues that attract attention. The ...

Week 4- Color Presentation Sherwin Williams Paint + Pigment  This presentation was very interesting and went into depth about what we covered last week.  We talked about hue, tone, shade, etc.. There were many new terms and concepts that we explored in the slide show. Metamerism is the phenomenon that occurs when color changes under different light sources. We also talked about Light Reflective Value or LRV and Refraction which is when light is refracted differently depending on the surface texture of an object, causing different impressions.  After this we talked about colors and the emotion they invoke, as well as the way they are used in a space. This led into the concept of pigments. We answered questions as a class, such as, what color is the most dynamic and learned that red is the answer. We continued to discuss Durability (restability of paint), Fade Resistance, Glass vs Sheen, Surface Finish Categories, Colorants, Washable Flat Finish, Interior Water Based Acryli...
